Section: Mystery of the Month:
***************************************

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "Breakfast in the Bahamas" and here is a brief description:

Cori Hobbs, Scottie Allerie, and Dana Brisco had a tradition to vacation together twice annually. Once to the Bahamas and once to Hawaii. However on this last trip to the Bahamas, something went terribly wrong and one of these close friends did not make it back home. Why? A case of secrets revealed?

Who could have done it?
Was it Blaine Kinkade the Third? Dana's husband and Dana was suing for a divorce.
A software company hit man? Dana had been threatened by someone from the software company.
Someone who wanted their secret kept? Dana had recently uncovered a smuggling ring and they did not want her to report it.

The mystery of Dana Brisco's murder takes lots of twists and turns and the final outcome is totally unexpected. The murderer's identity is only revealed in the final moments of this enthralling mystery!

Section: Some Friendly Advice From Author Donna Jodhan:

June 2015
Marshalling the Memories

Whenever I am a bit stymied for material to write about, one of the first things that I do is to try and marshal my memories. More often than not, it is not that easy to marshal them in some semblance of order but there is a technique to this and here are my suggestions.

First, I try to find some quiet time and a quiet place to do it. It need not be a huge effort; just a corner or tiny place tucked away from noise and distractions. Then I start to concentrate and focus my attention on one single topic or subject. The trick of the trade is to be able to have memories that relate to each other; not those that are scattered all over the board.

It needs to be kept in mind that scattered memories often distract you from concentrating. It is always better to have memories come into your mind in some semblance of order. Not easy but it can come with practice. Give it a try and you'll see what a difference it will make when you sit down to gather materials for your next writing project. Materials are more often than not created through memories.

So just go out there and practice marshalling your memories.

***************************************

1) For those of you traveling with toddlers, most, if not all airlines allow toddlers under the age of two years to travel free of charge.

2) Did you know this about your favorite hotel? When you first book they put a hefty hold charge on your credit card and this is only removed after they have charged you for your stay. So don't panic if you discover that you have been charged twice. The first charge will come off soon after your stay is over.

3) Why is it that there are so many young ones around in the bird and animal kingdoms? With a long and very cold winter just gone by, parents did not have the time to consummate their relations by mating and as a result the young ones should have been born much earlier than they are now being born!

4) Some very useful information about months of the year. From May 11th to August 11th is the period of the year when we gain the most daylight. Summer starts officially each year on June 21st.

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "The Ice Skater's Last Invitation" and here is a brief description:

He was young, handsome, and a brilliant ice skater. He had everything going for him including all the adoring fans that he could ever have hoped for. Yet, Kyle Willowby had been found murdered in his dressing room. He was about to retire from the spotlight so what could have gone wrong? Why? Who?

Which one of the following suspects could have been the real murderer!
Was it Benny, a body guard that had been hired by Kyle Willowby?
Was it Max Fenucci, an associate of his manager Jake?
Or was it someone in his wife Melissa's company?

May 2015

Triggering Thoughts

In the normal scheme of things it is our thoughts that almost always lead us to create, design, develop, and test our inventions. Call it what you may; inventions, creations, imaginations, products, and so on. At the end of the day it is our thoughts that help us to scale the wall and go out there and be free to create, design, develop, test, and complete.

If you were to follow this theory then the next step would be to ask the logical question; how does one trigger thoughts? How does one get those illusive thoughts to come dancing and prancing into our minds? How does one capture these sparkling flashes and put them into action? I believe that the first thing is to find ways to trigger them and here is my response for what it is worth.

You can use your senses to do this. Each of your five senses can play an important role; from the sense of hearing to the sense of smell, the sense of sight, the sense of taste, and finally the sense of touch. No one sense is more important than the other. For some it may be the sense of sight and for another it may be the sense of hearing. Maybe the sight of blue skies? Or maybe the sound of running water? Or even maybe a song, the taste of a juicy ripe peach, the smell of baking bread, or the touch of a feather on the back of your hand. Nothing is written in stone so why not go out there and experiment with what helps to trigger your thoughts?

Author Donna Jodhan is preparing to diversify her authorship, and how is this?

In addition to writing audio mysteries she is hoping to unveil her feature writing some time in the very early fall. This is new ground for Author Donna Jodhan but not to worry; her audio mysteries will still be available and she also plans to write a second Christmas Box Set in the near future.

Stay tuned!

Section: Author Donna Jodhan's Picks of the Month:
***************************************

1.) Some interesting info about our beloved turtles:
They need to come up every 15 minutes for air, so, if they get trapped in the net of a fisherman, it is vitally important to free them as soon as possible.

2.) So you're interested in finding those ever popular discount fares? Here's a tip for you:
The best time to find them is at around one minute past midnight on a Wednesday morning. And why is this? Well, here's the secret. Most travelers book discount fares on a Monday and if they do not follow through they let them go or have to do so before one minute to midnight on Tuesday. Accordingly, these fares come flooding back into the system at one minute past midnight on Wednesday morning. Give it a try!

3.) Want to know a bit more about the beautiful island of Barbados?
There are about 1500 Churches on this lovely island, and, at the same time, there are also about 1500 bars!

4.) Okay, there is definitely something called adult acne. What are the main causes?
Stress and hormonal changes.

5.) Did you know that browser cookies can undermine your privacy?
Yes, any snooper can use your browser cookies to build a profile on you! You need to be careful!

6.) So this is the latest about something interesting in France:
A law has been passed that employers are prohibited from asking their employees to do any work related task through email. What this means is that employers are prohibited from communicating with employees through emails or through any sort of mobile device for about 11 hours daily starting at 6:00 PM.

7.) Now for something interesting about cats!
These lovable pets sleep for about 16 hours per day!

8.) Which day of the week do we tend to nod off the most on?
Why, it is Wednesday!

Section: Mystery of the Month:
***************************************

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "Six Candles for Summer" and here is a brief description:

Little Summer Kirsten Stinsen has been kidnapped on her birthday. No one saw when the child was snatched but everyone is blaming each other. Her nanny is also missing but everyone refuses to believe that the nanny could have done the crime. Neighbors are stunned! Why would anyone want to kidnap Little Summer? For ransom?

Who could have done it?
Was it Brandon Stinsen?
He wanted custody of Summer Despite knowing that she was not biologically his.
Was it Kirsten Stinsen?
She too wanted custody of her only child.
Was it Justin Langden?
He Wanted custody of his biological child.

This mystery is filled with suspense and it is quite difficult to guess who the kidnapper is until the final moments. Yes! A surprise for the listener and an unlikely kidnapper!

April 2015 Breaking Down the Boredom Barrier

More often than not, it is the boredom barrier that gets in the way of a writer being able to work and it often leads to writer's block.

It can be said that it is very easy to slip into boredom but on the other hand it is also just as easy for a writer to get out of it. The thing to remember is this; the boredom barrier is definitely manageable and can be easily broken down. The first thing to remember is that you can conquer it. You can overcome it and you can sometimes use it to your advantage.

How do you break down the boredom barrier? In my opinion, I find things to do and things that I enjoy doing. I use nature to help me out here. I go for walks, I listen to the birds, I smell the flowers, grass, and freshness of the air, and I even use the smells of cooking and fragrances of perfume to help me out.

In short, I call on all of my available senses to help me out. I cannot call on the sense of sight because I am blind but here is where my imagination steps in to help me. So why not give this a try?

1.) Here's what we recently learned about those very hard working courier company drivers. They are often paid per drop off, so what do they allegedly do in order to puff up their pockets with more money for themselves? They arrive at your door and do not even wait for more than a second before placing a sticker on your door to say that they were there. Then they scurry back to their vans and speed away leaving you with no choice but to call the company for another drop off. More often than not, they do not even ring your doorbell or your buzzer. We had 3 persons verify these actions so the next time you find yourself having to call your courier company to ask for the driver to return with your package keep these facts in mind!

2.) How often do we yawn on average? About 10 times per hour.

3.) You might be surprised to learn that laminate and wooden floors attract more germs than carpeted floors.

4.) Now, here's something interesting to know about the beauty industry. This particular industry is a billion dollar one, about $260 billion per year to be exact, and you know what? More people spend money on beauty aids than on education.

5.) Having problems keeping up with those starched napkins for your table? Well, here is a solution that works quite well. Why not buy bandannas at the dollar store? They are pretty and stiff and they never wilt. You can wash them in the washer and they are still stiff and starchy!

6.) And finally, some interesting stats about annual colds. You get about five of them per year on average and cold season is at its height from September to April.

Section: Mystery of the Month:

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "Mistaken Identity" and here is a brief description:

Someone had wanted popular fashion model Jill Hagman dead and they had planned each step of the crime down to the nth detail. The murder had been committed in Jill's posh condo but alas! Something had gone terribly wrong for the murderer! Now it was too late to turn back the clock!

Who could have done it?
Was it Mickey Banaman, Jill's ex-husband who swore revenge?
Was it Brett Kidman, Jill's manager who swore payback?
Or was it Zack Neaman, who swore revenge because of jealousy?

This mystery is one of true passion and revenge and the killer is the one who seizes an opportunity to carry out a passion of crime!

March 2015
Ways to Improve Your Imagination

Let's face it; without a well functioning and well oiled imagination most of us will probably be unable to put our creative juices to work. For those of us who write for a living or even for those of us who simply write as a hobby, we need our imagination to keep us going.

So how can we do this in a world that is becoming more inundated with noise and clutter? Not possible you say? I say that it is indeed possible but we need to find ways to do it and at the end of the day it is really not that hard to do.

I have a few tricks up my sleeve that I use constantly and I am going to share these with you. The first tip would be to find a quiet place where you can hear yourself think. Next would be a place where you feel comfortable; a favorite coffee shop, restaurant, park, beach, etc. The third would be engaging in a favorite activity that would stimulate your metabolism; playing a fast pace game, doing yoga, or even something like cooking or playing your favorite instrument.

Then there are the things that you would engage in as a means to take your mind off your work. Watch a movie, read a book, go for a walk, do some knitting, go to a pottery class, etc. You see, so many different ways for you to stimulate your imagination and there is more but I am sure that by now you get the picture.

So just go out there and use some of these techniques to help improve and stimulate your imagination.

1.) Some important info for you about the flu shot!
Doctors say that when you take your flu shot, it should be able to protect you from some of the major flu strains for up to about one year. A flu shot cannot protect you from every single strain. The flu season usually lasts from October to April.

2.) Something to keep in mind as you pack your voltage converters if you are traveling out of North America.
Low voltage can accommodate such gadgets as your MP3 player, your computer, and small appliances. However, you will need high voltage for your blow drier.

3.) Why have we been having such frigid temps since December?
Because the sun has not been very active.

4.) Which country produces the most oranges worldwide?
Why of course! It's Brazil!

5.) Which is the most popular pizza topping?
If you guessed pepperoni you would be absolutely correct!

6.) A word of warning about gift certificates!
Make sure that when you purchase them you have them activated before you leave the store!

7.) Okay, here is an important airport tip for you.
If you fail to board a plane and your luggage has already been checked in, then guess what? Your luggage will be taken off the aircraft.

8.) Something very interesting to consider when it comes to production levels for the week!
Monday - Employees have a hard time producing because it is the first day back after the weekend. Tuesday - The most productive day of the week. Wednesday - The second most productive day of the week. Thursday and Friday - The least 2 productive days of the week. This was found through a survey carried out by the Globe and Mail.

9.) For those pregnant ladies we have something important to pass on.
Probably best for you to stay from raw fish and sushi during your pregnancy.

10.) This tip about a baby's car seat!
Car seats do have an expiry date, believe it or not!

11.) How many rice eaters are there in our world today?
Well, there are approximately 4 billion of these esteemed persons!

Garlic cooks much faster than onions!

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "Diary of a Parisian Priest" and here is a brief description:

Fr Stephan Paridis had been a very well liked Parish Priest. He was kind, generous, and always had time for his parishioners. Yet, there was someone who hated him enough to have killed him in cold blood while he slept. The goodly priest had started to criticize big business and certain governments before he was killed. Could any of this have played a part in his demise? Or was there something in his past that came back to bite him?

Was it Yannick LaBlanc - a parishoner?
Was it Pavel Sakarov - a Russian diplomat?
Or was it Dominic Gatchel - a banking executive?

This mystery is filled with intrigue and a healthy touch of suspense and at the end of it all the murderer turns out to be the least suspected.

February 2015
Techniques for Better Thinking

I would offer this: When it comes to being able to think; there are techniques that work and techniques that do not. I do not believe that there is any one technique that will work for everyone. It comes through trial and error but for this month I am going to give you what works for me.

I start by finding a quiet spot in my home or I may try to find one in a park or even on the beach. Next I would sit there for a few minutes doing some breathing exercises. Then I start to allow my imagination to wonder and hopefully this will begin the process of better thinking for me. If this technique does not work for some reason then I go to my second technique; using soft music to help me think. This second technique also often works. I usually use soft classical music or even some soft easy going music.

If techniques 1 and 2 do not work for some reason then I have other techniques in my toolkit; cooking up a storm in my kitchen, or maybe going swimming, or even just taking a nap. I would say that each of these techniques has its own merits but for now my toolkit of techniques serves very well.

So why not give any one of these techniques a try? Happy thinking!

Donna J. Jodhan, AKA Detective DJ

This is a personal message from author Donna Jodhan: "Each time we raise our voice at someone else we are engaging in bullying! Each time we raise our hands to slap or punch someone else we are also engaging in bullying and each time we engage in actions to either manipulate or force someone else to do what we want we are also engaging in bullying!

There is no room in this world for bullying and each day we fail to take action against bullying it is another day that we allow others to bully us and our kids. Our heros and role models are the ones who have made us proud; those brave young men and women who gave their lives for us in past wars and those who continue to do so. They are not the ones who choose to be racists and those who believe that their bad behaviour in public is acceptable.

I write and record audio mysteries that are being used at such events as murder mystery evenings as well as at public awareness and team building events. I promote understanding, tolerance, and problem solving and my audio mysteries continue to be broadcasted around the world and you can listen to them anywhere! On the plane or train! In the car or right there in your home! On your i-device or computer!

Please join my Campaign Against Bullying (CAB) by supporting my efforts to keep on writing and recording! "If you truly care then you will certainly dare!"

Section: Mystery of the Month:
***************************************

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "Supper at the Seaside" and here is a brief description:

Eight board members have been found dead at a posh hotel. They had all been there for an annual board meeting but! No one made it out alive an those responsible made very sure of that!

The question is: Who could have engineered such a heinous crime and why?

What could have driven anyone to do this? Could this have been an inside job?

Was it Matt McFaddon?
He had lost his life's savings.
Could not pay for his wife's cancer treatment.
She had passed on.

Was it Timothy Shoemaker?
He had lost all of his retirement savings.
Had been down sized.
Had been forced to find another job.
Had huge debts to pay.

Was it Erin Hennessee?
Was a single mom.
Had to close down her business because she lost her investments.
Had to mortgage her home.
Could not afford to send her kids to college.
Was forced to borrow heavily to stay afloat.

Was it Marianne Litzky?
Had lost all of her investments.
Her husband had recently passed on.
She had medical bills to pay for him.
Had kids to look after.
A single mom who had lost her home due to delinquent mortgage payments.

Deception, treachery, and desperation all combine to make this mystery into a true life drama!

January 2015
Brain Boosters

I know that many authors often suffer from writer's block and this is not unusual and one should not really panic when this occurs. What I find works for me is something I call brain boosters.

I have been using brain boosters for several years now and brain boosters can come in several forms. Here are some examples. The words or melody of a song. The smell of a sweet scented rose. The color of one of your favorite objects. The taste of one of your favorite dishes. You see, it all has to do with the use of your senses and trust me when I say that it does indeed help.

So try this one out, and happy writing with brain boosters!
